Entering the state-approved 100-hour nurse aide training program requires a current CPR and first-aid certification at the healthcare-provider level.

In South Carolina, the Department of Social Services (DSS) requires every foster parent to complete CPR and first-aid training before final approval and to keep those certifications current while fostering. The certificate is recognized by DSS as a condition of licensure, obtained from a recognized provider, and must be renewed over each two-year renewal period.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in South Carolina for personal, childcare licensing and employer purposes, with 3-year certification validity. OSHA does not prohibit online training but its interpretation letters favor a hands-on skills evaluation, so blended formats (online theory plus a practical component) are recommended.
